Description: Two manuscript copies of the drafts of Paul Kahle’s “Die Totenklage im heutigen Aegypten”. These two versions were preserved together and were mixed by Kahle. The file is now divided into parts, as these were numbered by Kahle, that are respectively entitled: - “Die Totenklage im heutigen Aegypten von Paul Kahle”. This part reproduces the introduction in its entirety; - “Die Totenklage im heutigen Aegypten von Paul Kahle”. This part reproduces a second version (incomplete) of the Introduction. Enclosed various other parts; - “A. Texte aus Kairo”. This part reproduces the dirge mentioned by Kahle as text “A”, transliterated and translated, recorded in Cairo (vv. 1-95); - “Texte von Fellachen”. This part reproduces the first part of the dirge mentioned by Kahle as text “B”, transliterated and translated, recorded from a fellaḥ in Ṭanṭa (vv. 96-139); - “B. Texte von Fellāḥen”. This part reproduces text “B” in its entirety (vv. 96-171); - “C: Text aus Luxor”. This part reproduces the dirge mentioned by Kahle as text “C”, transliterated and translated, recorded by Kahle personally in Luxor (vv. 172-226); - “Text aus Luxor”. This part reproduces text “C” in its entirety (vv. 168-222).
