Introduction
- The sub-series “Dialectology” contains both original and inedited materials collected during Kahle’s field work during his stays in Egypt and Palestine, and all materials relating to his major contribution within this field, «Volkserzählungen aus Palästina gesammelt bei den Bauern von Bir-Zet und in Verbindung mit Dschirius Jusif in Jerusalem» (edited by Kahle and Hans Schmidt: 2 vols., Göttingen 1918-1930). The archive provides evidence of all phases of preparation for the publication (transcription, translation, study of all of the texts collected), as Kahle has preserved a large number of documents most of which related to the grammar of the Palestian Dialect. The various "Folk narratives" collected by Kahle during field research in Egypt (Lower Egypt, Cairo, Luxor and Delta) can be also connected to this sub-series.
