Description

1) Cards with descriptions of the Islamic manuscripts of the Paul Kahle Fonds, compiled by Paul Kahle and others. Each card provides the number of the manuscript, the title, the author and other information. The manuscripts may each have more than one card: a series was certainly compiled by Paul Kahle himself; other cards were compiled later, and are of other hands. A number of cards bear the annotation "present" and a date (1959, 1960); a number of others bear the indication of the price of the item. These cards were originally inserted loose into the manuscripts; some were then pasted onto the manuscripts, while others were pasted onto sheets of paper and kept apart from the manuscript. Thus, at present, this series of cards comprises only the cards which were found loose in the manuscripts and/or were pasted onto sheets of paper; the cards pasted onto manuscripts have been left there. Descriptions of the Islamic manuscripts by Paul Kahle are also contained in file I 671. 2) “Möglicherweise Handschriften Katalog”: a series of cards (written by Paul Kahle and by a different person) containing author and titles of works. These titles are, in part, numbered and, in effect, refer to manuscripts belonging to Paul Kahle, while a part refers to manuscripts in all probability preserved in Istanbul (those labeled as “AS” and “Fatih”?).
