Introduction

This sub-series consists in the studies undertaken by Kahle into various aspects of the Hebrew Bible: it includes both preliminary studies to the publication of a number of fundamental works by Kahle and studies into various fields. It includes notes, page proofs and first versions of some of the most important of Kahle’s works. Among these, we may note “The Cairo Geniza”, in its first English edition, dated 1947, in the second English edition, dated 1959, and in the German translation of 1962. Alongside these materials relating to this fundamental text we also find documents illustrating Kahle’s studies, preliminary to other important publications such as “Opera Minora”, published in 1956, and “Der hebräische Bibeltext seit Franz Delitzsch” (1961). Furthermore, this sub-sub-series contains materials and documents relating to the study of various manuscripts, codex and text fragments. This is the material from which Kahle commenced, in developing his studies of the history of various translations of the Hebrew Bible: among these studies we note those on the Complutensian Polyglotta and also a number of pages on the Ben Asher codex and others on “Piuts” with Babylonian punctuation.
