Introduction

Regarding the study of individual Persian sources on the history of China, Kahle dealt with ʻAlī Akbar’s description of China entitled «Ḫiṭāʼī-nāma» (or else «Kheṭāy-nāma», "The Book on China"). On this work Kahle published the article “Eine islamische Quelle über China um 1500 (Das Khitayname des Ali Ekber)” (1933). The sub-sub-sub-series preserves unpublished documents on this work, such as the drafts of a complete German and English translation, the entire correspondence with the Chinese scholar Zhang Xinglang (also written Chang Hsing-Lang) from whom Kahle requested collaboration, starting in 1934. We also find the sources studied by Kahle, as the manuscript copies of this work in the various languages (Persian, Ottoman Turkish) in which it was circulated.
