Description
- Manuscript copy of the Arabic text of Ibn Dāniyāl’s «Kitāb Ṭayf al-Ḫayāl», divided in three separate volumes, reproducing “Codex C” (ie Ms Cairo, Azhar Library, Adab no. 463, Abāẓa no. 7059), with a sort of collation, in the margins, of “Codex A” and “Codex B”, a partial translation into German of the Arabic text made by Georg Jacob and further notes by Paul Kahle. The Arabic text was written in Cairo in 1910. The copy belonged to Georg Jacob and was inherited later by Paul Kahle. 1) The first volume corresponds to the first «bāba» of Ibn Dāniyāl’s work. It is entitled: «Kitāb Ṭayf al-Ḫayāl li-l-ustāḏ al-Fāḍil Šams al-Dīn Muḥammad Ibn Dāniyāl al-Mawṣilī al-Kaḥḥāl». It is dated 1910. The name of the copyist is Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Zayn al-Ṣabbār al-Marṣafī (p. 123). The text was written in black ink with a few words in red ink. On one side, in the margin of the Arabic text, there is a sort of collation (not systematic) between the two manuscripts in Georg Jacob’s possession, “Codex A” and “Codex B”; on the other side, Jacob himself translated the Arabic text into German. Paul Kahle added further notes in pencil. 2) The second volume corresponds to the second «bāba» of Ibn Dāniyāl’s work. It is entitled: «Haḏihi al-bāba al-ṯāniyya min Kitāb Ṭayf al-Ḫayāl ta’līf Muḥammad ibn Dāniyāl». It is dated 1910, and the name of the copyist is Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad [ibn Zayn al-Ṣabbār al-Marṣafī] (p. 74). The text is written in black ink with a few words in red ink. In the margin of the Arabic text there is a sort of collation (incomplete) between the two manuscripts, “Codex A” and “Codex B”, made by Paul Kahle in pencil, red and black ink. Georg Jacob’s translation and notes are missing in this text. 3) The third volume corresponds to the third «bāba» of Ibn Dāniyāl’s work. It is entitled: «Haḏihi al-Bāba al-ṯāliṯa min Kitāb Ṭayf al-Ḫayāl ta’līf Muḥammad Ibn Dāniyāl». It is dated 27 July 1910. The name of the copyist is Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Zayn al-Ṣabbār al-Marṣafī (p. 44). The text is written in black ink with a few words in red ink. In the margin of the Arabic text there is a sort of collation (incomplete) b etween the two manuscripts, “Codex A” and “Codex B”, made by Paul Kahle in pencil. Georg Jacob’s translation and notes are missing in this text.
