Introduction
- As for Ibn Samağūn, Paul Kahle wrote an article “Ibn Samağūn und sein Drogenbuch. Ein Kapitel aus den Anfängen der arabischen Medizin” (1952), examining some items of the Treaty on the simple by Ibn Samağūn, al-Ğāmiʻ fī al-adwiya al-mufrada, and other Arabic and Greek medical sources regarding the mandrake (in ar. yabrūḥ). The translation of the work was conducted from manuscript versions of which copies are preserved in the archive (Ms London, BM, Or. 11614; Ms Oxford, Bruce 48). The archive preserves all preparatory studies and an article by Kahle (not published and in English) related to the anesthesia, “Anaesthaesis in the Arabic Medicine”.
